Hey folks, just long-time lurker finally sticking his neck out. I've been teaching Poli Sci at UNT for years now, and lemme tell ya, campus culture's wild ride. So much change, it's like tryin' to wrangle bull!. Anyway, I'm mighty curious about Rice University. From the hearsay, it's got this unique balance between academics and social life that most colleges can't quite pull off. Mean, sure, they've got their reputation for academic rigor (and rightly so), but then you also hear about these offbeat traditions like Beer Bike and O-Week. Anyway, As someone who's seen many students burn out from heavy academic loads and lack of social outlets (real bummer), it sounds like breath of fresh Texas air to me. But I've gotta ask how does my program really manage this delicate dance?. Are the traditions as cool as they sound?. Or do they start feeling like just another chore?. And most importantly, do you feel that blend of academics and fun has added value to your overall college experience?. Remember folks, there ain't no right or wrong answers here we're just chewin' the fat!
