Any tips on balancing Academics with Social Life at Rice University?

I'm knee-deep in my first year of Masters in Electrical Engineering at Dallas straight from India. Boy, talk about culture shock!. But, lovin' it nonetheless. So, Also, been wondering about Rice University folks. How do you manage to keep up with your studies while still having time to kick back?. You know, just chill and soak in that Texan sun. After all, isn't college supposed to be the best years of our lives?. Or is that just in the movies?. Would love to hear how you juggle it all!
