What's the worst thing about UT Austin? I need to know before I commit. 🤔

I'm trying to make my final college decision and I've read all the glowing reviews. But I need the real talk. What's actually terrible about UT Austin?

Student reviews on Niche mention a few consistent complaints . One student said "the only negatives are the lack of parking and the price" . Another mentioned "class registration is difficult because classes fill up quickly" .

A third student wrote: "The worst thing about UT is that it's highly competitive, and the administration can sometimes make questionable decisions" .

I've also heard about the heat. Someone said "Austin summers are brutal" . I'm from Houston so I'm used to heat, but is campus walking miserable in August?

Another student mentioned class sizes: "Some of the intro level classes are huge, which can make it hard to connect with professors" . That's concerning because I learn better with smaller classes.

Then there's the cost of living. Austin has gotten so expensive. One review mentioned "the price of living in Austin has skyrocketed" . I'll be paying rent for the first time and I'm scared I won't be able to afford it.

I also read something about "the university's handling of sexual assault cases" and that made me nervous. Is campus safe? Do you feel safe walking alone at night?

There's also the competition factor. UT is a top school and everyone is smart. One student said "you have to work harder than you ever have before" . That's fine, I'm willing to work hard. But is it cutthroat? Do people help each other or compete against each other?

Another review mentioned "the administration can sometimes make questionable decisions" without specifying. What decisions? What should I be worried about?

I want to make an informed choice. Please give me your honest, unfiltered opinions — what's actually the worst part of going to UT Austin? 🙏
