What's the veterinary program like at West Texas A&M?

I'm interested in the pre-vet track at West Texas A&M. A student review said: “The animal science professors are amazing. They have real-world experience.” Another said: “The facilities are good, but there's competition for internships.” I want to work with large animals, and the location seems good for that. For current students, how hard is it to get hands-on experience? Do you get to work with the university's livestock? Also, how competitive is the program for vet school applications? 🩺

The program is solid but you need to be proactive. The opportunities are there—the university has thousands of acres of research land, a working feedlot, and a veterinary teaching hospital in Canyon. But if you sit in your dorm and just go to class, you'll miss them. Join the pre-vet club. Get to know the animal science faculty. Ask to help with research. The students who do that get into vet school. The ones who don't struggle.
