Website says: “Rooted in Catholic intellectual tradition. Welcoming all faiths.”
Every religious school says that. Then you get there and there’s a crucifix in every classroom. I don’t mind religion. I mind pressure. So my question: how present is the Catholicism at St. Edward’s? Required theology classes? Mandatory mass? Weird conversations about sin in dorms?
I visited once. Chapel was beautiful. But nobody forced me inside. That’s good. But a student told me: “Some professors pray before class. Not all. But some.” That… I don’t know how to feel about that.
If you’re atheist or agnostic at St. Edward’s — do you feel othered? Or do they actually walk the walk of “welcoming all”?
I don’t want to be a project. I want to be a student. Help
